Spanish 21 with a Live Dealer: What's the Difference?
Spanish 21 is a version of blackjack played heavily throughout Europe. The game is slightly harder to win than standard blackjack, but the payout odds are much more in your favor. If you play cautiously, you have the potential to win far more cash than in the standard blackjack game. The enhanced payout odds are payback for playing the slightly less advantageous Spanish twenty-one cards.
The Spanish 21 Cards
In a typical game of Spanish twenty-one, there are six decks of shuffled cards. However, all the decks have the ten cards removed. They still include all the face (King, Queen, and Jack) cards, so you still have twelve of the sixteen ten cards that a typical blackjack decks contains. But what this does is slightly reduce your odds of hitting blackjack or a combined twenty-one. Having a greater proportion of smaller valued cards also works in the Dealer's favor since he must always stop at seventeen. With less tens, the chances of him going bust when he has a combined hand of twelve and above are reduced. Still, the House advantage in Spanish 21 is less than one percent, which is great.

Of course lots of people play Spanish Twenty-One despite the slight disadvantage. That's because it is easier to win larger amounts. In Spanish 21, a player 21 always beats a dealer 21. A five card 21 pays three to two. A six card 21 pays two to one. A seven or more card 21 pays three to one. A 21 consisting of three 7's of matching suits plays two to one and if all the sevens are Spades, you get a three to one payout.
